Hi all, I have much to post following my vacation to Calgary. So much in fact that I don’t even have all the pictures off my camera, and the stuff actually out of the packages yet. I got home last night, thew everything in a pile on the floor, and went to bed after finding some food. Some things to expect are some new arachnids, new beer reviews, and at least one post on the Calgary Comic and Entertainment Expo
State of the blog: April 2012
Once again I have decided to post a “State of the Blog” address. Normally these end up being single posts that say something like “I am going to do stuff with this blog, honest”. Well today is going to be sort of like that, but as you may have noticed, I have already done a bunch of work! I know there is still more to do, but I have at least started.
For some reason I have decided that I want to improve my “personal web presence”. That includes what I am doing here, but not exclusively. I have done some SEO tweaking on my blog, updated the theme, and started working on my twitter presence a bit. I really have no idea what, if anything will come of it. I simply feel that I need to start networking a bit better than what I have been doing. If you are curious about what I am up to on twitter, feel free to follow any of my feeds.
@Crel : My “personal” feed. Gaming, #SKStorm stuff, some rants and profanity with the odd bit of photography and arachnoculture thrown in. This is the one to follow if you want to see the me as I am.
@chrislarsen55 : My “professional” feed. This feed is about and/or related to my job. Co-workers, and U of R twitter accounts are the main things I follow. I made this account mostly for the #URSMUG group that I am a part of in order to expose less of the non-relevant to that group. This is a feed that needs a lot of work to grow, so I will be focusing on this one for a while bringing out tech/IT related tweets.
@NnRCrashCourse : This one is just for fun. It is my dog’s twitter account. It was started when I got a “Puppy tweets” for him. That was not that great of a gadget, so I am now going to start using it for real. Feel free to follow this, but don’t expect anything educational
I also have something new on the horizon as far a web work goes. I am not going to say anything about that at this point other than I will announce it when it comes.
So do you like the new theme? Should I change anything? Let me know what you want to see more or less of in my blog.
Aquarium Society of Winnipeg Show
This past weekend, I was in Winnipeg to judge an aquarium show. I was able to apprentice at this show two years ago, and had a great time. I was back this year for my 4th apprentice run, but was surprised to find that I was lead judging at the show, with an apprentice of my own. It wasn’t until the next morning that I found out why. This year’s Winnipeg show played host to the 2012 CAOAC AGM.
I was able to attend the AGM the next morning where unbeknownst to me at the start of the meeting I was to be accepted as a fully accredited CAOAC judge. A process that I had started back in 2009 has come to the best conclusion possible, and to be honest one I had kind of given up on. I am now the youngest judge west of the great lakes, and one of the first new western judges in nearly 20 years.
I am exceptionally happy, and I am looking forward to many more shows in the future. Maybe even a chance to judge a show out east someday!
